Background Information

February, 1944. The USAAF Daylight bombing raids are continuing.  Pushing deeper into Germany,  enemy fighters and flak have taken their toll, yet the missions must still be run. Fortress Europe must be destroyed.

With the recent introduction of the P-51B, fighters can now escort the bombers all the way to and from the target.  However, Goering's Luftwaffe is still a formidable force to face.

This Squadron Operations Event recreates some of the action in early 1944 when escorted B-17s and B-24s became the normal strategy for the Allied daylight raids into the industrial complex within Germany.
